Basketball Game Preview: Millers Creek Christian Lions vs. Cornerstone Christian Academy Crusaders

The Millers Creek Christian Lions will take on the Cornerstone Christian Academy Crusaders in a holiday battle at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Cornerstone Christian Academy is facing Millers Creek Christian at the wrong time: Millers Creek Christian suffered their first home loss of the season on Thursday and they're likely out for redemption. They fell 52-39 to Statesville Christian.

Despite their defeat, Millers Creek Christian saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Julian Houpe, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards, was perhaps the best of all. Houpe is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. Carter Ward was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

While Cornerstone Christian Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 58-50 win over Sheets Memorial Christian on Friday.

Cornerstone Christian Academy pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points over those games. As for Millers Creek Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Millers Creek Christian strolled past Cornerstone Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in February by a score of 44-26. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
