Baseball Game Preview: South Fayette Lions vs. Canon-McMillan Big Macs

The South Fayette Lions will venture away from home to square off against the Canon-McMillan Big Macs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: South Fayette has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Canon-McMillan will arrive with three straight victories.

South Fayette fell victim to Trinity and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Hillers by a score of 1-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Lions were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Canon-McMillan posted their closest win since April 9th on Thursday. They skirted past Hempfield Area 4-3.

Michael Stafford tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Massimo Falconi was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Colin Yeager was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Canon-McMillan pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for South Fayette, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

Everything went South Fayette's way against Canon-McMillan in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, as South Fayette made off with a 7-1 victory. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Big Macs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
