Basketball Game Preview: Economedes Jaguars vs. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears

The Economedes Jaguars will face off against the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses apiece.

It was a proper cat-fight when Economedes duked it out withEdinburg North on Monday. Economedes lost 72-49 to Edinburg North. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 898th, while the Cougars are ranked 398th).

Despite the loss, Economedes got top-tier performance from Nathaniel De La Garza, who went 8 of 16 en route to 23 points in addition to five boards and three steals. That was a full 46.9% of Economedes' points, marking the seventh time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniel Solis, who scored nine points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo played a tough game on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Edinburg 86-50. The Bears were down 62-39 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo's defeat dropped their record down to 10-19. As for Economedes, their loss dropped their record down to 14-14.

Economedes came up short against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 49-42. Can Economedes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
