Football Recap: Hidalgo Early College Comes Up Short on the Road Against Pace

Hidalgo Early College kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 21-14 to the Pace Vikings. The Pirates were not able to make up for their loss to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Roberto Gallegos, who rushed for 147 yards and one score. Ethson Fonseca also helped out with an impressive 89 receiving yards.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Damian Majano and Ernesto Torres. Majano rushed for 157 yards and one TD on only ten carries while Torres rushed for 85 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 157 rushing yards gave Majano a new career-high.

Hidalgo Early College didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 46-0 defeat against La Feria on the 5th. As for Pace, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 35-34 win against Bishop on the 5th.
