Basketball Game Preview: Crescent Tigers vs. West-Oak Warriors

The Crescent Tigers will take on the West-Oak Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Crescent will head into Thursday's match out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Thursday. They were beaten by Walhalla 74-30. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Razorbacks are ranked 29th).

Meanwhile, West-Oak suffered their biggest defeat since February 22, 2024 last Friday. They were dealt a 68-36 loss at the hands of Daniel. The Warriors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-17.

Crescent will need focus on slowing down Joey Burgess, one of several West-Oak players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 14 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Burgess a new career-high in blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Sosby, who had seven points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, West-Oak smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

West-Oak's defeat dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Crescent, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

Crescent was dealt a bruising 72-43 loss at the hands of West-Oak in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Crescent was down 40-19.
