Logan Vinklarek pitches, hits La Grange to UIL Class 3A state title

Hallettsville squeezes past Hughes Springs for Class 2A crown; Carlisle (Price) reigns supreme in Class 1A.

AUSTIN, Texas – Senior pitcher Logan Vinklarek tossed a five-hitter and at the plate went 2-for-2 with a triple to lead La Grange (Texas) to a convincing 10-2 victory over Pleasant Grove (Texarkana, Texas) in the University Interscholastic League Class 3A state baseball championship game Thursday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Vinklarek improved to 9-2 with the victory for La Grange (26-9).

Shortstop Tanner Fritsch, the Leopards' leadoff man, chipped in with three hits and two RBIs. Left fielder Dalton Burton and catcher Landon Gerik also each contributed two RBIs.

Dylan Silvey accounted for two of the hits for the Hawks of Pleasant Grove (28-14), the 2012 Class 3A state champion.

Class 2A
Hallettsville (Texas) 4, Hughes Springs (Texas) 2


Sophomore Nate Kowalik snapped a 2-2 tie with a fifth-inning RBI single and pitcher Reagan McAda made it stand up with a complete game performance.



Cleanup hitter Will Wallace had three hits for Hallettsville (35-3). McAda and Justin Reeves each had two hits for the Brahamas. The state title is their first since a Class 3A crown in 1997.
Hunter Smith had a pair of hits for Hughes Springs (36-2). The loss for Mustangs pitcher Zach Bassham was his first in 14 decisions this season.

Class 1A
Carlisle (Texas) 6, Stamford (Texas) 1

Junior Zach Brightwell pitched a complete-game three-hitter and didn't allow an earned run to lead the Indians to their first state title.

Carlisle (29-1) pounded out 12 hits, two apiece coming from Caleb Colley, Kolton Heim, Jaylan Holland and Ty Baker. Colley and Heim scored twice.

Ligon West, Dalton Mathis and Austin Alvarado accounted for the hits by Stamford (26-3).
