Football Recap: Island Coast Comes Up Short

Island Coast and Bonita Springs squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Island Coast had to settle for second. They were beaten by the Bullsharks 33-0. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 361st, while the Bullsharks are ranked 176th).

Island Coast didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Yaritza Garcia and Bria Brathwaite. Brathwaite has been hot recently, having posted at least one interception the last four times she's played.

Karli Kalsow was the offensive standout of the contest as she threw for 38 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also punched in one score on the ground. She also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, defending one pass and snagged an interception.

This is the second loss in a row for Island Coast and nudges their season record down to 2-9. As for Bonita Springs, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-6.

Island Coast does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bonita Springs, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 13-6 defeat against Bishop Verot on the 15th.
