Softball Recap: Fife Starts off Right with Win over White River

Fife took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the White River Hornets, sneaking past 9-8. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now won five in a row.

Mallory Geving made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Fife let Kaitlin Christiansen and Mallory Robson run wild. Christiansen scored three runs while going 3-for-3, while Robson went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Monroe, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Fife hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as White River struck out 11 times.

Looking ahead, Fife will face off against Chief Sealth at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for White River, they will challenge Emerald Ridge at 4:40 p.m. on Saturday. White River is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak dating back to last season.
