Volleyball Recap: Lakeland Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Lakeland can now relate to. They lost 3-0 to the Shelley Russets on Saturday. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Russets earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Lakeland's offense was headlined by Alyssa Ryckman and Jolie Warren, who picked up ten kills apiece. They got some help from Kindell Day and her 16 assists. Finally, Anabel Bowie kept Lakeland's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Among those leading the charge was Ashtyn Davis, who had 15 digs and three aces. She has been hot for a while, having posted 11 or more digs the last 17 times she's played.

This is the second loss in a row for Lakeland and nudges their season record down to 13-11. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 28-6 Hillcrest (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 79% over those games). As for Shelley, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 28-9.

Lakeland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Shelley, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-1 loss against Hillcrest on the 1st.
