Farmersville is 2-8 against Orange Cove since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Aztecs are taking a road trip to challenge the Titans at 6:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Farmersville had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Orosi on Thursday. The Aztecs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Cardinals a 6-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Meanwhile, Orange Cove waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Spartans as they made off with a 16-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Adrian Gonzalez tossed a big game, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Roman Ocejo and Josiah Guerra did most of the damage at the plate: Ocejo went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Guerra got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Ocejo has posted since back in April of 2024. Benjamin Garza was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Orange Cove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Orange Cove pushed their record up to 14-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Farmersville, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-10-1 record this season.
Farmersville came out on top in a nail-biter against Orange Cove in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Aztecs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
