MaxPreps.com highlights standouts in the running for the nation's highest honor.
This week's look at MaxPreps.com's National Player of the Year candidates (listed alphabetically);
Mike Bellamy, RB, Charlotte (Punta Gorda, Fla.)
Team record: 11-0
Last weekend: Thanks to Bellamy's 241 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, Charlotte's Class 4A first-round matchup with Gulf Coast (Naples) was a breeze. The Fightin' Tarpons won 49-11, advancing to face 10-1-1 Cape Coral.
Season: Bellamy's totals climbed to 2,174 yards and 36 touchdowns with the postseason victory, also his sixth 200-yard effort of the season.
Johnathan Gray, RB, Aledo (Aledo, Texas)
Team record: 12-0
Last weekend: Gray tallied 213 rushing yards and six touchdowns as Aledo destroyed Waco 70-35 in Class 4A Division II playoff action.
Season: Gray continues to make a strong push. The 5-foot-10, 185-pound junior is up to 2,601 yards and 48 touchdowns on the ground this fall with another 128 yards through the air.

Skyline's Kasen Williams is making a late push for POY honors.
Qyendairs Griffin, RB, South Panola (Batesville, Miss.)
Team record: 13-0, No. 2 in this week's
Xcellent 25 High School Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard
Last weekend: The workhorse in South Panola's 24-13 win over Olive Branch, Griffin ran the rock 30 times for 243 yards and a score.
Season: In topping the 200-yard mark for the sixth time this season, Griffin saw his totals reach 2,292 yards and 31 TDs.
Johnny Manziel, QB, Tivy (Kerrville, Texas)
Team record: 10-2
Last weekend: Manziel and Tivy saw their season come to an end with a 48-42 loss to Lake Travis (Austin), but not without one more mind-blowing statistical performance by the future Texas A&M Aggie. Manziel threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns on 21 of 36 pass attempts while running for 141 and two more scores.
Season: Past MaxPreps.com National Players of the Year have all led their teams to some type of championship. Manziel won't have the opportunity to do that, but don't count him out of the running. He finished with 3,559 yards and 44 touchdowns (against just five picks) through the air and ran for another 1,695 yards and 30 TDs.
Maty Mauk, QB, Kenton (Ohio)
Team record: 11-2
Last weekend: Like Manziel, Mauk's season ended over the weekend despite another big performance. The 6-2, 185-pound junior threw for 390 yards and four in a 35-32 loss to Archbishop Alter (Kettering). He added another 73 on the ground with another score.
Season: Mauk won't reach the 6,000-yard mark through the air, but 5,670 and 69 touchdowns is still remarkable – especially when you consider he ran for 974 yards and 16 TDs.
Kasen Williams, WR, Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.)
Team Record: 11-1
Last weekend: Williams turned in a heroic performance in a 42-21 4A quarterfinal victory over rival Issaquah, scoring four touchdowns – including second-half TD grabs of 59, 46 and 51 yards – and finishing with 183 yards through the air on 10 catches.
Season: The future Washington Husky has been huge for Skyline in all three phases. At wide receiver, Williams has 74 receptions for 1,332 yards and 21 touchdowns. At defensive back, the 6-2, 215-pound senior has over 70 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. As a return man, Williams has over 300 yards.
Marquise Williams, QB, Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.)
Team record: 13-0, No. 20 in this week's Xcellent 25
Last weekend: Williams combined for 203 passing and rushing yards and three touchdowns despite injuring his left ankle in a 49-23 win over Ardrey Kell (Charlotte).
Season: The future North Carolina Tar Heel is approaching 5,000 total yards and has accounted for 64 touchdowns as Mallard Creek takes on Vance next.
Quentin Williams, QB, Jefferson (Tampa, Fla.)
Team record: 11-0
Last weekend: Jefferson rolled past Land O'Lakes in Class 3A first-round playoff action, scoring 50 or more points for the sixth game in a row in a 54-19 win. Williams tossed three touchdown passes and brought his career total to 99, surpassing Xavier Lee and Tim Tebow (98) on the Sunshine State's career list. He is tied with current Florida Gator John Brantley for second all-time – one behind the record of 100.
Season: The 6-1, 190-pound senior has thrown for over 3,300 yards and 47 touchdowns for the unbeaten Dragons.
Justin Worley, QB, Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.)
Team record: 13-0, No. 18 in this week's Xcellent 25
Last weekend: Worley was at it again in a 49-35 playoff win over Ashley Ridge (Summerville), totaling 349 yards and four touchdowns on 30 of 37 pass attempts.
Season: "Unstoppable" is the name of Denzel Washington's latest flic. If a movie about Worley's senior year at Northwestern is ever made, it may have the same title. The future Tennessee Vol has thrown for 4,788 yards and 56 touchdowns against just nine interceptions. The Trojans are averaging over 41 points per game.
