Softball Game Preview: CORE Butte Lynx vs. Burney Raiders

The CORE Butte Lynx will head out to take on the Burney Raiders at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

CORE Butte fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Los Molinos on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 6-5.

Meanwhile, Burney had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven last Friday. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The contest marked the Raiders' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Mia Perez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.

In other batting news, Alexis Witzel was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Alyssa Hawkins also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Burney's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for CORE Butte, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.

CORE Butte couldn't quite finish off Burney in their previous meeting back in April of 2022 and fell 6-4. Can the Lynx avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
