Baseball Recap: Moorpark Comes Up Short

Moorpark dropped to 13-5 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Royal Highlanders by a score of 8-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Highlanders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 back in March.

CARSON CERNY was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was AJ MAI, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Royal, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

On Royal's side, they gave Dean Barkman the start and clearly made the right call: he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. That's the most strikeouts Barkman has posted since back in February.

At the plate, Isaiah Tillman was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Visage, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

While Moorpark had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
