Basketball Recap: Whitefield Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Riley Ring and Noel Smith

It was a proper cat-fight when Whitefield Academy faced off against Mercy on Monday. The Whitefield Academy Wildcats fell to the Mercy Jaguars 52-46. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now lost four in a row.

Noel Smith and Riley Ring certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Smith went 7 of 12 en route to 18 points and six boards, while Ring dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 39.1% of Whitefield Academy's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Gwynnie Franz was another key player, putting up five points.

Whitefield Academy's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 15-6. As for Mercy, they moved to 9-11 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Whitefield Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 72-25 victory against Shelby County on the 4th. Mercy has also already played their next game (against Ryle), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
