St. Rita has won four straight games at home, while Kenwood has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Saturday. The Mustangs will host the Broncos at 11:00 a.m. St. Rita is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
St. Rita is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Bogan on Friday as they made off with a 21-1 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Mustangs with their most commanding win of the season.
Steve Gonzalez looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
On the hitting side, Peyton Panozzo was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Jaden Rivera was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
St. Rita always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .733. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Kenwood hadn't done well against Chicago Mt. Carmel recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Broncos walked away with a 5-1 win over the Caravan. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 23, 2017, but that streak is no more.
Evan Stinson tossed a big game, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. He has become a key player for Kenwood: the team is 2-0-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise.
At the plate, Kenwood saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Damaurion Butler, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Lance Moon also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
St. Rita's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Kenwood, they now have a winning record of 6-5-1.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Rita hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. However, it's not like Kenwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Rita came out on top in a nail-biter against Kenwood when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 11-10. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Broncos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
