Softball Recap: Monterey Wins Going Away Against Greenback

Monterey made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Greenback, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Cherokees with a sharp 8-2 victory on Friday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by six runs or more this season.

Alexandrea Novak made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylin Shepherd, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Makenzie Bowman, who scored two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

Monterey pushed their record up to 4-3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Greenback, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Monterey didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-0 win against Cosby on the 22nd. As for Greenback, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 13-11 defeat against Harriman on the 25th.
