Basketball Recap: Keyaira Limuel and Navaeh Jones Secure Win for Bastrop

Bastrop won the last time they faced McCallum and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Bastrop Bears took down the McCallum Knights 62-43. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while the Knights are ranked 834th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bastrop was led to victory by Navaeh Jones and Keyaira Limuel. Jones dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Limuel went 8 of 14 on her way to 20 points and six boards. Jones has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 17 times she's played. Alaysia Williams was another key player, putting up six points and seven assists.

Bastrop smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Defeat or not, McCallum got some senior leadership from Emy Chen and Miranda DiGiovanni. Chen went 5 for 11 en route to 17 points, while DiGiovanni posted 13 points and five boards.

Bastrop's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 32-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points over those games. As for McCallum, their loss dropped their record down to 11-17.

Bastrop didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 46-37 victory against Weiss on the 10th. As for McCallum, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 67-20 defeat against Georgetown on the 10th.
