MaxPreps 2014-15 South Dakota Girls Basketball Fab 5 presented by the Army National Guard

1. O'Gorman (Sioux Falls)
2013-14 finish: 17-9
Head coach: Kent Kolsrud

The Knights finished third at the Class AA state tournament last year and return five of the top eight players from that squad. Leading the way is returning all-state pick Dalee Stene, a 5-7 guard who averaged 11 points a game during last year's state tournament. The team's leading rebounder in the tournament, 6-2 senior forward Jessica Mieras also returns. Others seeing playing time in the state tournament included 6-1 junior forward Katie Messler, 5-9 junior guard Rachel Townsend and 6-0 senior forward Kate Cartwright.

2. More (Rapid City)
2013-14 finish: 23-1
Head coach: Brandon Kandolin



The Cavaliers have won two state championships in the past three seasons and have won an average of 22 games a season for the past four years under coach Brandon Kandolin. The defending Class A state champions return the top player in Class A in Alexys Swedlund, who earned all-state honors last year while averaging 20.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

3. Washington (Sioux Falls)
2013-14 finish: 19-3
Head coach: Nate Malchow

Washington graduates every starter from last year's Class AA state championship team, including all-state guard Ellie Benson. The only return player with significant playing time during the tournament last year is 6-0 junior center Sydney Arrington. Washington has won state titles three times since 2008 and it has averaged 20 wins a year for the past seven seasons.

4. Roosevelt (Sioux Falls)
2013-14 finish: 15-9
Head coach: Chris Clark



Roosevelt lost its Class AA tournament opener last year, but came back to win the consolation championship. Two of the top players on that team return including 6-2 guard Tagyn Larson, the team's second-leading scorer in the tournament with 19 points per game. Peyton Stolle, a 5-9 sophomore guard, also saw significant playing time in the tournament. The Rough Riders will miss Paige Mriden, who averaged 25 points during last year's tournament.

5. Mitchell
2013-14 finish: 21-2
Head coach: Wes Morgan

Mitchell reached the state finals for the third straight season in 2014, but the Kernels will miss their catalyst in the graduated Macy MIller. She averaged 30.7 points and 8.0 rebounds during her senior season. Taylor Volesky, a 6-0 senior, is the top returning player for Mitchell while juniors Erin Farnham and Ally Goldammer saw playing time during last year's tournament.
