Basketball Recap: South Panola Takes a Loss

South Panola was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a 67-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Saltillo Tigers. While losing is never fun, South Panola can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while Saltillo is ranked 49th).

Saltillo's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Crayden Shannon, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 21 points. Shannon's evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Jack Conner Howell was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.

South Panola's defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Saltillo, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Grenada the next time they take the court. South Panola will host Grenada at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Saltillo will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
