Softball Recap: Pender Snags Seventh Victory in Last Nine Games

Pender never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the West Columbus Vikings. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Alyna Rooks made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Charleigh Rivenbark and Kenyatta Jacobs did most of the damage at the plate: Rivenbark went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Jacobs scored two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, Jacobs posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Iddings, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Pender has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for West Columbus, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

Coming up, Pender will head out to challenge Wallace-Rose Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for West Columbus, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on East Columbus at 6:00 p.m. on the 29th.
