Volleyball Recap: Lincoln East Spartans vs. Fremont Tigers

After flying high against Lincoln Northeast last Tuesday, Lincoln East came back down to earth. The Lincoln East Spartans fell 3-1 to the Fremont Tigers on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 2-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture two weeks ago.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 25-16.

Lincoln East's offense was headlined by Sammi Plas and Kacey Porter, who picked up 11 kills apiece. They got some help from Kennedy Johnson and her 38 assists. Katie Merten controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

McKinzie Brandt was a one-man wrecking crew for Fremont as she had 35 digs and two aces. Brandt is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in the last eight games she's played.

Lincoln East's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 16-17. As for Fremont, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 28-5.

Lincoln East does not have any more games scheduled as of now. After both having extra time off, Fremont and Elkhorn South will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
