Football Recap: Mt. Carmel Sundevils vs. Eastlake Titans

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mt. Carmel can now relate to. They took a 45-27 bruising from the Eastlake Titans on Friday. Despite 181 more yards than the Titans, the Sundevils couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Several Sundevils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trevor Taumoepeau, who threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns. Taumoepeau's passing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 305 passing yards. Mt. Carmel's leading receiver Connor Gibbons was Taumoepeau's top target yet again, picking up 152 receiving yards and one TD.

Eastlake can attribute much of their success to Tyler Balko, who rushed for 109 yards and one score on only 11 carries. Those 109 rushing yards gave Balko a new career-high.

Mt. Carmel has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Eastlake, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-6.

Mt. Carmel does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Eastlake, they will take on Westview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
