Basketball Recap: Monroe County Takes a Loss

Monroe County lost against Adair County back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Monroe County Falcons had to suffer through a 88-49 loss at the hands of the Adair County Indians. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Indians are ranked 24th).

Connor Loy continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Adair County, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine assists. Loy is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last seven games he's played. Dawson Gilbert was another key player, going 5 of 6 on his way to 15 points and three steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Monroe County and nudges their season record down to 11-13. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 14-9 Barren County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 71.7% over those games). As for Adair County, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 19-4.

Monroe County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 71-68 loss against Russell County on the 7th. As for Adair County, they have also already played their next game, a 69-43 win against Barren County on the 8th.
