Recap: Plainfield South Cougars vs. Joliet Catholic Hilltoppers
A well-balanced attack led the Plainfield South Cougars over the Joliet Catholic Hilltoppers in every quarter on their way to victory on Monday. Plainfield South was the clear victor by a 68-43 margin over the Hilltoppers. With Plainfield South ahead 33-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Plainfield South to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tierra Abner, who scored 14 points along with three steals. Abner has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Destynia Mcgruder, who scored 16 points.
Sophia Mihelich and Symone Holman certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Mihelich scored 19 points, while Holman scored three points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Plainfield South is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. As for Joliet Catholic, they dropped their record down to 5-23 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Plainfield South won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th. That game will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Maziah Shelton and Jazlynn Foster. As for Joliet Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on the Roadrunners at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nazareth Academy is coming into the match hot, having won their last 11 games.
