Softball Recap: Old Plank Christian Academy Drops Season-High Score on First Coast Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Old Plank Christian Academy). They were the clear victors by a 23-5 margin over the First Coast Christian Knights on Tuesday. The Defenders have beaten the Knights the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.

Carly Mobley made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Rodriguez, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Laiton Pechin was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Old Plank Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-4. As for First Coast Christian, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-2.

Looking ahead, Old Plank Christian Academy will head out to take on ED White at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for First Coast Christian, they will face off against Peniel Baptist Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Peniel Baptist Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so First Coast Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
