Recap: Eastmark Firebirds vs. Combs Coyotes
The Eastmark Firebirds were the 85-67 winner over the Combs Coyotes when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. Eastmark took a 65-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Combs on Tuesday. Eastmark has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Eastmark lost, one person who can't be blamed is Timothy Gorham. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. That was a full 46.4% of Eastmark's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Alex Burns was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
Combs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kamren Dubose led the charge by scoring 19 points along with six assists and two steals. Dubose has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Logan Tuckfield, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Eastmark's defeat dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Combs, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Eastmark will take on Arizona College Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Arizona College Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday. As for Combs, they will be playing in front of their home fans against American Leadership Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
