The Huntington Highlanders are taking a road trip to take on the Riverside Warriors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Huntington is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over Tug Valley on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Highlanders as it put an end to their eight-game losing streak.
Layla Crickard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Crickard was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lilly Robinson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Ellie Fei was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Riverside waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Vikings, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted against the Vikings since March 31, 2018.
Like Huntington, Riverside also got a great game from a two-way player: Shaylea Blackhurst. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Blackhurst has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, firing off three home runs while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Starr Hudnall, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Riverside lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Huntington's record is now 3-13. As for Riverside, their record now sits at 13-6.
Huntington suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Riverside in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Highlanders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
