Baseball Recap: Draper APA's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

It was a Battle of the Birds when Draper APA took on Utah Military Academy - Hill Field on Monday. The Eagles fell just short of the Thunderbirds by a score of 8-7. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Thunderbirds apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Oliver Wagner was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in September of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Weston Stratton was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three runs. Cale Watts was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

With the loss, Draper APA broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-5. As for Utah Military Academy - Hill Field, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-5.

While Draper APA had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
