Moapa Valley is 9-1 against Sports Leadership & Management since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Pirates will square off against the Bulls at 4:00 p.m. Moapa Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Moapa Valley heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Wednesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Boulder City. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Pirates were not able to get on the board.
Moapa Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lachlan Stephenson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one double. Another was Tyson Pettingill, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Sports Leadership & Management earned a 5-2 victory over Mater Academy East Las Vegas on Wednesday.
Audric Gregorio made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Sports Leadership & Management: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 10-17 otherwise. Gregorio was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Alex Garcia was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.
The loss snapped Moapa Valley's winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 19-11 record. As for Sports Leadership & Management, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 13-18.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Moapa Valley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Sports Leadership & Management struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Moapa Valley beat Sports Leadership & Management 12-7 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Bulls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
