Basketball Recap: Heritage Christian Comes Up Short

Heritage Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 64-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while the Raiders are ranked 109th).

Despite the defeat, Heritage Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caleb Flint went 9 of 17 on his way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Arterburn, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Heritage Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathan Smith led the charge by going 7 for 9 en route to 20 points and six assists. Those 20 points gave Smith a new career-high. Kasien Stevenson also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Heritage Christian's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5.

Heritage Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-57 defeat against North Central on the 1st. As for Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter, they will challenge Roncalli at 3:30 p.m. on February 8th. One thing working in Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 14 games.
