Preview: La Cueva Bears vs. Cleveland Storm
La Cueva is 2-8 against Cleveland since November of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Both teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in La Cueva's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 11 matches.
Last Saturday, La Cueva faced Eldorado in a battle between two of the state's top teams. La Cueva strolled past Eldorado with points to spare, taking the game 71-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
La Cueva got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cameron Dyer out in front who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dyer has scored all season. Eric Jacobsen was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cleveland unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 63-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Volcano Vista. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cleveland has scored all season.
La Cueva has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. As for Cleveland, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-3.
Things could have been worse for La Cueva, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 73-57 loss to Cleveland in their previous meeting on Wednesday. Can La Cueva avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
