Baseball Recap: Chariho Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Narragansett

Chariho faced Narragansett in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Chargers came out on top against the Mariners by a score of 6-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-3 two weeks ago.

Landon Sumner made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since April 4th. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Sumner wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Adam Carpenter, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run. Gavin Apice was another, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

The victory made it two in a row for Chariho and bumps their season record up to 7-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Narragansett, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Chariho will host North Providence at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so the Chargers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Narragansett, they will venture away from home to take on East Greenwich at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
