Football Recap: Truckee Wolverines vs. Fernley Vaqueros
After flying high against Dayton last Friday, Truckee came back down to earth. The Wolverines fell 38-29 to the Fernley Vaqueros on Saturday. The Wolverines were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vaqueros apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.
Truckee's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rylan Lauter, who rushed for 70 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries. Another rusher making a difference was Seth Molt, who rushed for 67 yards and one score on only seven carries.
Leading Fernley to victory were Bryce Stephens and Keeshawn Love. Stephens rushed for 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries, while Love rushed for 178 yards and one TD. Love's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 15th straight game with at least 122 rushing yards dating back to last season.
Truckee's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Fernley, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1.
Truckee wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 20-14 win against Elko on the 3rd. As for Fernley, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Churchill County at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Greenwave's defense has only allowed 2.2 points per game this season, so the Vaqueros' offense will have their work cut out for them.
