Basketball Game Preview: Platte Valley Broncos vs. Highland Huskies

The Platte Valley Broncos will face off against the Highland Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Platte Valley took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Bennett 55-53. The win was all the more spectacular given the Broncos' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while the Tigers are ranked 92nd).

Platte Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Regan Edstrom, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 20 points and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Edstrom has scored at least a third of Platte Valley's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Talyn Short, who posted 15 points and five assists.

Platte Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Highland put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 53-44 victory over Liberty Common.

Highland's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.1 points per game. As for Platte Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.

Platte Valley couldn't quite finish off Highland in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 and fell 58-56. Can Platte Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
