Softball Game Preview: Elkhart Elks vs. Groesbeck Goats

The Elkhart Elks will head out to square off against the Groesbeck Goats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Elkhart is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.1 runs per game this season.

Elkhart is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since February 24, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Buffalo by a score of 8-6. The Elks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ella Lively made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Londyn Holland, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Groesbeck was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 18-16 heartbreaker at the hands of Buffalo. Even if the Goats couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Karley Mayhugh led a balanced group of hitters, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and one stolen base. Landrie Pringle also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Even though they lost, Groesbeck was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .425. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Groesbeck's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Elkhart, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.

Everything went Elkhart's way against Groesbeck in their previous matchup on March 4th, as Elkhart made off with a 14-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Elkhart since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
