Basketball Recap: Brookfield Comes Up Short

Brookfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a hard 58-41 fall against the Kolbe-Cathedral Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Cougars are ranked 28th).

When it comes to explaining why Brookfield lost, don't look at Gustavo Almeida. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 9 on his way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of John Lopes, who posted two points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Brookfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Kolbe-Cathedral's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Williams led the charge by going 7 of 9 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sekou Nimaga, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 13 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Brookfield's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Kolbe-Cathedral, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

Brookfield will head out to square off against Joel Barlow at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brookfield is facing Joel Barlow at the right time seeing as Joel Barlow is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Kolbe-Cathedral, they will host Weston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Weston's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
