Softball Recap: Prout Triumphs

While Prout's victory against Smithfield wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Crusaders had just enough and edged out the Sentinels 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Crusaders in their matchups with the Sentinels: they've now won six in a row.

Megan Gardiner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sara Slitt, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Prout's record now sits at 9-10. As for Smithfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12-1 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Prout will welcome Pilgrim at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Patriots have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Smithfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Raphael Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Saints' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Sentinels' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
