Softball Recap: La Serna Comes Up Short

If La Serna was riding high fresh off their 9-1 takedown of Whittier last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lancers fell just short of the Beckman Patriots by a score of 7-6 on Saturday. The Lancers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Karina Torres spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits.

On the hitting side, Aubrie Baruch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Paulina Ortega, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

La Serna's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Beckman, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

La Serna will face off against California at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Lancers 3.8, the Condors 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Beckman, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 4-3 loss against South Hills on the 12th.
