Softball Game Preview: Abington Heights Comets vs. Valley View Cougars

Abington Heights is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Valley View is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Comets will host the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Saturday, Abington Heights sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over Deposit-Hancock.

Meanwhile, Valley View faced North Pocono in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Trojans. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Abbi Call made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Zoie Krupovich was a standout: she fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kalli Karwowski, who fired off two home runs while going 2-for-3.

Valley View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in seven consecutive contests.

Abington Heights has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Valley View, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1-1.
