MaxPreps regional high school baseball rankings

Teams from California, Arizona, Louisiana, Illinois and New York hold down top spots in five regions.

Heading into the final two months of the 2018 high school baseball season, MaxPreps presents its first regional baseball rankings of the year with No. 1 teams from California, Arizona, Louisiana, Illinois and New York.

Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.), the winner of the National High School Invitational, is the top team in the West, while Mountain View (Mesa, Ariz.) is the top team in the Southwest. Zachary (La.) is No. 1 in the South, Joliet Catholic (Joliet, Ill.) is the top team in the Midwest and Lancaster (N.Y.) is the top team in the Northeast.

The regional rankings are based on the MaxPreps National Baseball Computer Rankings. The team's record and computer rating are noted in the rankings. Numbers are current as of Tuesday.



The 50 states are divided into five regions as follows:

West: Hawaii, California, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, Colorado.

Southwest: Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona.

South: Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia.

Midwest: North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas.

Northeast: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, West Virginia.



States not included: Montana and Wyoming (do not have baseball), Iowa (season is during the summer).
