League recap: Travis tops Lanier to extend winning streak

Travis extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region IV District 26 this week by beating Lanier, 27-12. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Rebels.

McCallum moved up to 603 from 667 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Knights were able to make the jump by besting Crockett 35-7.

McCallum's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Griffin Stuesser threw for 92 and two touchdowns and Willie Mays had 92 yards receiving. On the ground A.J. Herrera chipped in 104 yards.

Johnathon Caldwell provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Travis beat the Vikings. He completed 13 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 45 yards. Caldwell's favorite target this week was Johnny Williams, who caught seven passes for 90 yards.

Travis' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rebels feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Caldwell has thrown for 1269 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Williams has 42 catches for 639 yards. Chris Clark leads the league in rushing with 640 yards.

The top two teams in 4A Region IV District 26 will face off this week when first place Travis takes on second place McCallum. Armando Jacinto's team topped Lanier last week, while Jason Cecil's team beat the Cougars.

There should be lots of points scored when the Rebels and the Knights face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Travis comes in having scored 208 this season, while McCallum has scored 170. The Rebels scored 27 points last week as they topped Odis Jones' team.

Eastside Memorial took down Village 53-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Keith Williams in the win.
