Baseball Recap: Chatham Comes Up Short

Chatham extended their losing streak to nine on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-13 in the process. They came up short against the Halifax County Comets, falling 21-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Comets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 two weeks ago.

As for Halifax County, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-6. Considering they have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Halifax County's part, Logan Clark made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Clark has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carter Thomasson, who went 5-for-6 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaharie Edmonds, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Chatham will venture away from home to square off against William Campbell at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Halifax County, they will host George Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.2 runs per game on average), something the Comets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
