Basketball Game Preview: Whitewater Wildcats vs. Fayette County Tigers

Whitewater hasn't had much luck against Fayette County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Whitewater Wildcats face off against the Fayette County Tigers at 6:00 p.m.

Whitewater is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 18th straight game on Saturday. They took a blow against Sandy Creek, falling 77-7. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 510th, while the Patriots are ranked 74th).

Meanwhile, Fayette County had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.4 points) and they went ahead and made it nine last Saturday. They skirted past the Patriots 65-62.

Fayette County's win came from a few key players Whitewater will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Megan Ohonde, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Briann Freeman, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 14 points and six boards.

Fayette County's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Whitewater, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-19.

Whitewater was dealt a bruising 93-16 loss at the hands of Fayette County when the teams last played back in January of 2024. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Whitewater was down 56-5.
