Softball Recap: Venice Beats Vanguard for Their Third Straight Victory

Venice had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Vanguard Knights. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Jayde Neptune spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addison Queen, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylin Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Venice's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Vanguard, they moved to 7-7 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Venice will venture away from home to challenge Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Vanguard, they will challenge Mount Dora at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
