Football Game Preview: Tatum Coyotes vs. Gateway Christian Warriors

The Tatum Coyotes will venture away from home to face off against the Gateway Christian Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Tatum's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last three contests.

Tatum is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Mesilla Valley Christian School, who was ranked tenth at the time (Tatum was ranked fourth). The Coyotes came out on top against the SonBlazers by a score of 38-28 on Saturday.

Tatum didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Anthony Montez and Landyn Cogburn. Tatum got some further help from Canton Bolin: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made four total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, after soaring to 68 points the game before, Gateway Christian was a bit more limited in their game on Friday. They were dealt a 48-6 defeat at the hands of Melrose. The matchup marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Gateway Christian's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-3. As for Tatum, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Tatum was taken down by Gateway Christian 54-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Coyotes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
