Basketball Recap: Kashlee Randel's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Akron over Caliche

Akron was the 61-35 winner over Caliche when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Akron Rams fell to the Caliche Buffaloes 55-51.

Akron lost on Friday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kashlee Randel, who en route to 25 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly O'Neil, who posted ten points in addition to six boards and six steals.

Caliche's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexis Breidnebach, who on her way to 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Breidnebach is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Hailey Sommerfeld also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Akron's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Caliche, they pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Akron didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 41-38 victory against Briggsdale on the 22nd. As for Caliche, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 62-52 loss against Hi-Plains on the 24th.
