Softball Game Preview: North Vermilion Patriots vs. Iowa Yellowjackets

The North Vermilion Patriots will square off against the Iowa Yellowjackets on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

North Vermilion is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Everything went their way against Breaux Bridge as they made off with an 11-0 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Patriots needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Iowa, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over DeQuincy on Monday. The Yellowjackets haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Ayla Stollsteimer made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Morgan Henry, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Allie Darbonne, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Iowa hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as DeQuincy struck out six times.

North Vermilion's record is now 11-16. As for Iowa, their record now sits at 24-10.
