Softball Recap: Holston Find Success

Holston proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Rural Retreat Indians 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cavaliers have posted since April 14th.

Rily Cobler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Remine, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Holston's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rural Retreat, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Holston will square off against rival Chilhowie at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cavaliers 3.4, the Warriors 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Rural Retreat is set to take on their familiar foe Patrick Henry at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
