Recap: Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks vs. Eastern Mennonite Flames
The Norfolk Collegiate Mighty Oaks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 20 points or more this season. They were the clear victor by a 69-49 margin over Eastern Mennonite. The victory was just business as usual for Norfolk Collegiate, who after eight games remain undefeated this season.
Norfolk Collegiate got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Justin Burrough out in front who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Brennan Chatman, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds.
Despite the loss, Eastern Mennonite still got an impressive performance from Drew Hatter, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Hatter scored a full 38.8% of Eastern Mennonite's points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. William Gardner was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Eastern Mennonite struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Norfolk Collegiate's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Eastern Mennonite, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.
Norfolk Collegiate will head out on the road to face off against Charlottesville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eastern Mennonite will be home for the holidays to greet St. Michael the Archangel at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Virginia (St. Michael the Archangel is ranked 179th, while Eastern Mennonite is ranked 157th).
