Baseball Recap: Greensburg Salem's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Greensburg Salem waltzed into their game on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Apollo Ridge Vikings with a sharp 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Golden Lions, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Braedon Leatherman was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Greensburg Salem is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise. Leatherman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dom Rosensteel, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Greensburg Salem: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tanner Shirey, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Greensburg Salem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Greensburg Salem's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Apollo Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-10.
